The AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment [Fifth Edition] is the 600-page textbook written by the American Medical Association to teach doctors how to calculate an injured worker’s permanent impairment from an injury or disease.

Expertise and Calling

The AMA Guides Made Simple text was adopted in California’s work comp system in 2005. It is used in 35 states, Canada, and throughout the Commonwealth in work comp and injury legal systems.

Phil is one of the 10 international experts on the book.

As a result of his work, he has been called upon to teach and lecture to physicians, lawyers, and claims adjusters across America. He has taught for the Mayo Clinic, Florida Work Comp, Utah Work Comp, American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians, American College of Occupational Medicine, Calif. Orthopedic Association, and hundreds of employers, law firms, physician groups, insurers, and administrators.

The medicine of workers’ comp has been one of Phil’s passions since he started in work comp in 1982.
